Another highlight of my honeymoon in Ireland was seeing a GAA match. In this case it was Meath vs. Dublin in the Leinster Senior Football Championship Semi-Final at Croke Park.

Gaelic Football can be described as a mixture of soccer, rugby, a little basketball and even volleyball. The ball closely resembles that of a volleyball, and the players do a combo of bouncing it on the turf, throwing it, kicking it and doing kind of a volleyball bump motion. We knew very little of the sport and how scoring is kept, but clearly knew Dublin lost.

Our seats ended up being in the first row, just near midfield, and the opposite side of the team benches. It was a hot and sunny day, but that didn’t stop us from having a good time. A part of us would have preferred a little higher of a seat so we could see the plays develop, but at the same time, it was pretty cool that the action was only feet away from us.
