Rockies Sports Bar – Belfast

Rockies Sports Bar

Most of you know that I went to Ireland for my belated honeymoon. It was a trip based around a Pearl Jam concert in Belfast. Nik and I started our trip with a couple nights in Dublin, followed by two nights in Belfast, then two nights in beautiful Galway and another two nights in Dublin.

Each city was a great time, with lots to do. However, it was Belfast that really impressed me more than I expected. We stayed in city center which made for easy walks to the Odyssey Arena (for the concert), some good shopping areas and a few restaurants and bars. If the peace situation can remain as good as it is, I’d love to see the city five years from now.

Aside from the Pearl Jam concert, the next best thing was Rockies Sports Bar that we stumbled upon before heading in for the concert. I wasn’t expecting anything like this place in Ireland, yet alone in Belfast.

It’s a sport bar that is part of the whole Odyssey complex which has the arena (home to the Belfast Giants), a movie theater and much more. Rockies was just amazing! We hung out there before the concert and enjoyed all of the memorabilia it had. Area’s dedicated to the NHL, famous Irish born players in North American sports. It even had a few Blackhawks team pictures hanging up.

Just as the sign says..

I met the owner Jim as I was taking some pictures. He was a very nice guy and is super excited for the Bruins to visit in the fall. I told him I was in town from Chicago and he was excited about their little Chicago baseball corner. I told him I’d try to put together some things to send his way, including some Mets stuff.

If you ever visit Belfast, stop at this place. It’s really something to be seen in person and the city as a whole is up and coming.
